Thought:
I read the first chapter of Malachi this morning. This is said to be the last word from the Lord for 400 years until John the Baptist comes preaching repentance and baptism. Today, I am just focused on the second verse. "I have loved you" says the Lord. And the people's response is "how have You loved us?"
Just meditate on those two statements for a moment. God, who cannot lie, says He has loved us. We ask, how? Here is what the Lord is saying to me.
- Larry, you want to feel loved. You look at circumstances to determine if you are loved. You compare your situation to others and question whether someone else is loved more than you. God is love. That is His character and His attitude toward man. God says He loves you with an everlasting love. He loves you so much that He gave His son to redeem you.
- When I question God's love, I am questioning
- His purpose. Is His purpose really for my good. Satan spoke in the garden and said that God really doesn't want the best for you, Eve, God is withholding something from you.
- His plan. When I question God's love, I am saying His plan is not perfect. God needs to improve His plan to show me more love, more blessings.
- His power. Maybe God does love me, but He doesn't have the resources or the power to show that love. We hear this from children all the time, "if you love me you would let me do what I want to do, you would let me have my way, you would allow me to do what my friends are doing." When I question God's love, His way I am almost always saying, why can't I do it my way.
- His timing. His timing is perfect. Not only do I want God to do things my way, I want Him to do it when I want it.
God so loved [inset your name] that He gave His only begotten Son so that I would not perish but have eternal life. No greater love has man than to lay down his life for a friend.
Lord, I know You love me. Forgive me for questioning Your love based upon my circumstances.
Blessings
Larry
