Thought:
Reading Mark 10:35-45  today. James and John, or perhaps them and their mother, have come asking for preferential treatment in the kingdom--sitting at the right and left of Jesus. The other disciples react. All have forgotten Jesus teaching on who is the greatest. Now, Jesus tells them how to be great in His kingdom.

Want to be great? Serve others. [10:43] Think about our society. Using this definition, who would be great? The trash collector, housekeeper, waiter, nursery volunteer, deacon. God's ways are not our ways. We look for greatness at the top. He looks for greatness among servants. Makes me ask, who am I serving. One of my most prized possessions is a bowl with a towel given to me by a young couple many years ago. They told me I had washed their feet in service and they wanted me to have a reminder. As I have told you, the Sunday School lesson that my 12th grade boys remember from the 1970's was the Sunday I polished their shoes in Sunday School. This morning, let's all ask ourselves who we are serving and who is serving us. Greatness in the kingdom is serving.

Blessings
Larry
