Thought:
Well, I am in Micah this morning. You may ask, what happened to Ezekiel through Jonah? Jeremiah was hard and I needed some good news. So I turned to Micah 5. I needed to remember the One.

  • God chooses the small and insignificant to demonstrate His plan and power. Bethlehem was the city of David, but David has been gone for 300 years. It is not a big city, an important place. But it is the city of David and the Messiah is to come from David's line. Aren't you glad that in His plan, God can use the small and weak, the old and the young, the intellectual and the simple. It is not the instrument, but the one that made and holds the instrument. It is not the clay, but the potter.
  • One will go forth from Bethlehem.
    • The One goes for and in the name of the Lord [5:2]. Jesus came from God, He is God and He goes for God. Reminds me that when I go in His power, and with His message, and for His glory, there is power--not mine but His.
    • The One goes to Rule. He is King, Sovereign, Lord. Our Savior is King. [5:2]
    • The One is from everlasting. [5:2] As John says, in the beginning was the Word. Or as Paul reminds us, everything was created by Him, for Him and through Him. He is the glue that holds everything together. Without Him nothing that exists was made.
    • The One is a shepherd. [5:4] He knows His sheep by name. He feeds His sheep, tends His sheep, protects His sheep. And of all the Father has given Him He has lost none.
    • His flock of sheep remain[5:4]. Nothing can separate them from God's love. He gives life eternally and abundantly.
    • The One is our peace. [5:5] He bought our peace with God through His blood. He gives us His peace that surpasses all comprehension. We dwell in His peace--free from worry, doubt, fear.
The One has prepared a place for us. The One is coming again to receive us. The One will reign with us and over us forever. He is the One and Only.

Blessings
Larry
