Thought:
Reading a verse in Exodus 14 today. "The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent." Think about what this means:
  • Our battle is not against flesh and blood. Ephesians 6:12. We are in spiritual warfare. We are wrestling with the forces of spiritual darkness. So we cannot fight this battle in our flesh. We need divinely designed weapons and defenses--shield of faith, helmet of salvation, belt of truth, sword of the Spirit. Or as Paul says in 2 Corinthians 10:4--"the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but have divine power to destroy strongholds." Recall David's statement to the warriors who feared Goliath--"the Lord does not deliver by sword or by spear, for the battle is the Lord's." And our battles are won, not by might and not by power, but by My Spirit says the Lord of Hosts." Zechariah 4:6. I love that verse because Lord of Hosts means the Lord of the armies of heaven. When Martin Luther wrote "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" based on Psalm 46, he used the name "Lord Sabbaoth" Lord of the Hosts--and He must win the battle.
  • If we are in Christ, then it is His battle. Read 2 Chronicles 20:15 this morning--King Jehoshaphat is surrounded and prays for God's help. God answers through Jahaziel--"Do not fear or be dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God's." And the enemy turned on each other and were destroyed.
I get anxious to fight battles, retaliate, get ahead of God, seek revenge. God has to constantly remind me that our battles are spiritual, our tools are divinely prepared for these battles. Makes me think about Jericho, the Israelites didn't knock down the wall--they marched silently in obedience. Lord, help us march in Your army, following Your commands, prepare for the battles, but trust You to lead us and protect us.

Blessings
Larry
