Thought:
Yesterday, we were considering what love is not or what things are not really love if done for the wrong reasons or motives. Today, look at these familiar verses about love: 1 Corinthians 13:4-10.

Love is:
  • Patient
  • Kind
  • Humble
  • Rejoices in truth
  • Bears all things
  • Believes all things
  • Hopes all things
  • Endures all things
  • Never fails
Love is not:
  • Jealous
  • Selfish
  • Vengeful
  • Easily provoked
  • Pleased with evil
We could spend some time on each of these statements, but we have all heard the sermons and studied this passage. We all know what love is--and if we ever have doubts, we look to the perfect specimen, the perfect example--Jesus. Usually reading these verses makes me think of a hymn, but today I am thinking about a song from Foreigner--"I Want to Know What Love Is." The chorus says, "I wanna know what love is, I want you to show me. I wanna know what love is, I know you can show me." Do you wanna know what love is--Jesus shows us. Patient, kind, humble, our hope, enduring to the end, never failing. Forgiving, and bearing all our sins. Wanna know what love is--King Jesus. So now the hymn--"Love lifted me, love lifted me, when nothing else would help, love lifted me."

Blessings
Larry
