Thought:
Still reading in 2 Corinthians 1 this morning, focused on 1:20. For me this is a foundation truth. All of what we hope for and all that we need for this life and the next is captured by this truth. All of the promises of God are yes and amen in Jesus! Think about that this morning.
First, think with me about all the promises of God contained in scripture.
- God loves us with an everlasting love. His love will never change or grow weak.
- God promised to send a Messiah to save us.
- Jesus promised to send us the Holy Spirit as another Comforter, guide.
- Jesus promised that we would not be tempted beyond our ability to resist and endure in Him
- Jesus promised to never leave us or forsake us.
- Jesus promised to prepare a place for us.
- Jesus promised to return and receive us.
- Jesus promised that He is our sufficiency and strength.
Both Testaments are filled with the promises of God. And in Jesus every promise has been and will be fulfilled. Because we have seen His promises be true, we have faith that all His other promises will also be true. And that gives us a hope that will not disappoint. I also notice the precision with which all God's promises are true, every detail exactly as He said. Our pastor recently preached through Daniel. Throughout that book, promises are made and fulfilled. Chapter 11 is an amazing prophesy of future history with details only God could know. Daniel received this message about 536 BC and it contains details of the future of God's people for the next 400 years. And every prophesy came true just as promised. Now turn to Revelation and read about the future. Everything promised in this book will come true exactly as presented because Jesus is the one from whom and through whom and to whom are all things.
What does this one verse in the second letter to Corinth mean for us today. I can trust every single promise in the Bible, no matter what the circumstances look like, no matter how I feel about the situation--every promise of God is yes in King Jesus. That is good news!
Blessings
Larry
