Thought:
Today I am reading Romans 8:26-39. The preceding verses have told us that we and all creation longs for His coming [8:19-25]. While we wait, we have the Holy Spirit to:
  •     Help our weakness [8:26]. While we await His coming, we may have doubts and fears [Satan's tools]. We may need wisdom and guidance. We may need strength and hope. So the Spirit helps in our weaknesses. And the Spirit teaches us how to pray. Think about that for a moment. God knew that we would face trials and temptations, He knew the enemy would continue to try and deceive and destroy us. So, He sent the Spirit to help us, comfort us. But He also sent the Spirit to help us pray. And the Spirit is uniquely equipped to do that because the Spirit knows the mind of God and the Spirit knows our minds. He knows God's will and leads us to conform our will to His. And one of the main ways of achieving these goals to through prayer.
  • When does weakness come? Look at verse 35. Tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, sword. When these things come, we might think God does not love us, that we are separated from His love. What about death, life, angels, principalities, the present, the past, the future, heights, depths, any created thing? Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.
  • But we know that God is at work for our eternal good and His eternal glory. [8:28] Notice it says "we know." We may not see God working out His plan, we may not understand how He is working out His plan, but by faith, we know He is. And we know that His ultimate plan is for our good. I want God to work out His plan for my comfort, He works for my good.
  • Knowing that God is at work and His plan is for our good, we can only conclude that God is for us. [8:31]. And if He is for us, who can be against us. If I am on God's side, who can defeat me. No one! So we are more than conquerors through Christ. [8:37]
This tells me that today, no matter what happens, God is for me, Jesus loves me and nothing in this world can change that. That is good news!

Blessings
Larry
