Thought:
Reading Romans 14:13 today. Determine this--not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother's way. This is a great way to test if my life is giving evidence of God's will. Am I putting a stumbling block in front of a brother or sister. Paul connects this to whether we truly love our brothers. If I truly love, I am willing to sacrifice something that I desire that is not wrong but might cause my brother to stumble. I refrain from some conduct not because it is wrong, but because it causes my brother to doubt or to lose heart or to compromise.

This is hard for me. If it is not wrong and not sin, why must I refrain just because someone else feels differently. Love. Love. Love. Jesus left heaven and came to die for love. Does anything I may need to give up or avoid even remotely compare?

Paul completes this thought in 15:1--it's not about pleasing myself, it is about bearing the weaknesses of my friends.  Maybe this is another way of bearing each others burdens. I know this causes me to think again about the great love of Christ. What was He willing to give up for me?  To love like Him, I need to give up anything that causes my brother to stumble. I have work to do.

Blessings
Larry
