Thought:
After the fall of Jerusalem, Jeremiah writes Lamentations. We rarely read this book. Today I am reading chapter 5. I am focused first on 5:1., Lord, remember what has happened to us. As I look at our nation, I ask, Lord, what has happened to us? Are we living like Judah before the fall? Has our sin and disobedience caused You to lift Your hand of blessing and protection? Here it seems that Jeremiah is asking God to remember the punishment Judah received at the hands of the Babylonians and forgive and restore. Is it too late for America to repent and avoid the discipline of God? Will our children and grandchildren suffer because of our sins?

Reading further, Jeremiah asks God to restore and renew [5:21]. Surely that is our prayer this morning. Our nation needs restoration and renewing. But then the Spirit says to me--God has told you what to do in 2 Chronicles 7:14. If I want the nation renewed and restored, it starts with me. So this morning, as I pray,Larry humble yourself, seek His face and turn from your wicked ways. We talk about repentance as a 180 degree turn---turning from the ways of the flesh and turning toward God---seeking His face. I seek His face by aligning my ways with His ways---all my ways. I guess what I am hearing this morning is to stop blaming the liberals, progressives and others for the condition of our country and to obey the Lord's command about myself.

Blessings
Larry
