Thought:
Reading in Jeremiah 17 today. Thinking about 17:5-10, the story of two men.
The man who trusts in mankind is cursed. The man who trusts in his own strength is cursed. The man who turns away from the Lord is cursed. WOW! Larry, are you trusting in the ways of the world, the wisdom of men, your own strength? When I do that, I am turning away from God and looking to man to help me, guide me, sustain me, provide for me. And God tells us that will lead me to the desert, the wilderness. I will miss out on God's prosperity when it comes. I look around. How many of my friends and neighbors are in this situation? They have the appearance of success, the appearance of happiness, the appearance of security--but in reality, they are cursed.
The man who trusts in the Lord is blessed. I could stop right there. Trusting God makes me blessed--why, because He says so. And I can experience those blessings of love, joy, peace, forgiveness, security. Look at what it says--A tree planted by water. A stream that never runs dry, continues to flow even in the worst of times the most severe drought--like the water promised to the woman at the well. And the tree will send its roots directly into the water. Truly we are the branches to the eternal living Vine. And notice the results--no fear even in the heat of the fiery furnace; not anxious when the drought comes. Have you flown over the western US and seen the brown of the waterless desert and then suddenly, green grass where the golf course is watered. That is the picture here. All around there may be drought, death, nothing, but where the Living Water flows, the tree is in constant leaf and the fruit grows abundantly.
Take a look this morning at Revelation 22:1-4. A river of water coming from the throne of God and the Lamb; on both sides of the river grows the Tree of Life; the tree bears 12 kinds of fruit monthly; and its leaves are for healing. Until that day, Christ wants to flow His water through us so that we bring healing to the world and bear fruit worthy of the Lord.
Blessings
Larry
