Thought:
Finishing Haggai today. Really struck by what the Lord says through Haggai in 2:10-14. God gives a couple of truths by way of questions. In the first, He asks if  something holy makes the cloth or other food that it touches holy. Then He asks if something unclean touches something will that thing become unclean. The answer to the first is "no" and the second "yes." What do I learn from that.

Holiness is not transferable. Just because my parents were Christians does not make me one. It may help and direct me to Jesus, but I need to accept His gift personally. Same for church. Rubbing shoulders with Christians at church does not make me one. The people thought they could bring a holy sacrifice to the altar and that would make them holy. It will not. As Paul says, present your bodies as a living sacrifice.

On the other hand, sin is catching, like the flu. Think about the way Psalm 1 begins--don't walk in the counsel of the wicked, don't stand in the path of sinners, don't sit in the seat of scoffers.

Maybe the message to me today is to be careful, obey God, follow the Spirit, cling to the Word--seek holiness. This is an internal challenge that results in external evidence. And to be careful to not allow the world to be my counsel, lead me to sin, and cause me to scoff at God and His word. He alone has the purpose for my eternal good, the plan to achieve that goal and the power to fulfill the promises.

Blessings
Larry
