Thought:
Do you need some help this morning? Is there anything bothering you, causing distress or anxiety? Do you just need some help to make it through the day? Read Psalm 121 with me this morning.

Who do you need to help you? Someone with wisdom, understanding, power, patience, experience? Look at what the psalmist says:
  • The Lord made heaven and earth. He has the power to speak things into existence. He has the power to sustain things through the ages. He has the wisdom to create with such precision that man cannot understand--how does the bumble bee fly--aeronautically impossible.
  • The Lord never sleeps, goes on vacation, takes a nap, goes offline. He is available 24/7/365. When I need help, He is there.
  • The Lord will be here forever. Friends may move, die, get mad, make other friends they like more--He is here from today and forever [8].
What kind of help can He supply?
  • He steadies me and places me on sure footing. [3] He brings me from darkness to light. He is a rock that will not move and stands against every wind and storm. He lifts us up from the deep, from the mirey clay and places our foot on solid ground.
  • He is my keeper [5], my Shepherd. He guards me from the evil one [8]. He protects me from evil. The picture of the Shepherd is so rich--His sheep know His voice and He knows their names--an intimate relationship. He prepares places for them to thrive and grow. He cares for their hurts and bruises. He anoints them with healing and comforts them. He seeks them out when they are lost. He makes Himself the door of the pin so that nothing can get to His sheep.
  • He is the keeper of my soul. [7] And of all the Father has given Him he has never lost even one. He is the anchor of my soul. He has taken the anchor rope to heaven and fixed it there and one day will pull on the rope and bring me home. Until then, I am anchored to Him and the Holy Spirit is my guarantee.
What's my job? Lift my eyes to Him. [1] As Moses raised the serpent in the wilderness and all who looked were healed, so Christ has been lifted up so that all who look to Him will be saved. Makes me think of the downcast sheep. If a sheep falls over, it is unable to right itself so the shepherd uses his crook to right the sheep. When we are downcast, looking down in defeat and distress, He lifts our heads to see His face. And we sing, "Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face; and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace."

Blessings
Larry
