Thought:
Looking at Jude 17-21 today. I have underlined several of these verses in my Bible. Seems like 17-21 were written for today.
  • Remember. Recall what the Apostles said, recall what Jesus promised, recall all the words of God recorded in the Bible. Sometimes we act like something new and unexpected has happened. We say, "who could have anticipated this?" Of course, the answer is God saw it all. So we can read the prophets with confidence. We can trust what Jesus said about the future with certainty. We can trust what the Apostles and the authors of scripture tell us about the future.
  • Mockers will come. They mock the truth of God's word. They mock the actions and statements of followers of Christ. They mock the truth of the past as recorded in the Bible. They mock the future events Jesus promised. And their mocking has consequences--division. Division in the church; division in the nation; division in the world. Who are these mockers--those devoid of the Spirit with minds focused on the worldly and fleshly. Politicians and leaders in education and business whose life demonstrates the absence of the Spirit. Athletes and entertainers whose lives mock the Living God--yet are popular, worshipped, and whose words and endorsements carry weight among the masses. Notice what Jude says in verse 16: these people are grumblers, finding fault, seeking their own lustful desires, arrogant, flattering people to gain an advantage. Know anyone like that? I have to ask myself in the mirror--is that you? Are you finding fault, flattering for gain, arrogant?
  • Believers. Notice what Jude urges us to do in response to the mockers.
    • Build yourself up in the faith. Know your doctrine. Remember the promises. Test everything against the Word. Recognize that the world is trying to deconstruct you and your faith--be busy and diligent building.
    • Pray in the Spirit. Keep the communication alive between you and Headquarters. The Mighty Commander has orders for today and He has all sufficiency in everything you need for today's battle.
    • Keep yourself in the love of God. Just a few days ago we wrote about demonstrating love for God by obedience and by loving His children.
    • Wait expectantly for Jesus. WOW! Do I do this every day--expectantly awaiting His return.
Lord, today help me be a believer, not a mocker.
Blessings
Larry
