Thought:
Reading 1 Corinthians 4:20 this morning. What a verse! What a truth! The kingdom of God does not consist in words, but in power. What does that simple statement bring to your mind this morning?

  • He talks the talk, but doesn't walk the walk. He talks a good game, but cannot play. Big hat, no cattle. Now there is power in the words of Christ and power in the words of the gospel, but here, Paul reminds us that talk is cheap and God's power is released when we live in faith trusting/leaning on His word. In our weakness He is strong.
  • James would echo this thought--you tell me about your faith, I'll show you my faith in my works. God's power is released and displayed when we act, move, respond.
  • For us, talking about the gospel is one thing, sharing the gospel releases power. Talking about homelessness, or poverty, or hunger, or thirst is one thing, doing something about it releases God's power.
  • Talking about grace and forgiveness is great, but God's power is released when we forgive.
I want God's kingdom to come with power, so today, Lord help me stop talking and do something--call the lonely, feed the hungry, tell the lost about Jesus, comfort the suffering. Nike has one thing right--Just do it.

Blessings
Larry
