Thought:
1 Corinthians 4:10 hit me this morning--"We are fools for Christ's sake." If I could just keep this in my mind, life would certainly make more sense. Look back at 2:14, "a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them because they are spiritually appraised." A couple of things come to my mind.

When I follow Christ and live life God's way, the world cannot comprehend what is happening. It requires a spiritual perception to understand how God's people live and the world just cannot grasp it. So when I am misunderstood, criticized, harassed, vilified, made fun of, I should respond as Christ did on the cross, "forgive them Father, they just don't know what they are doing." I think this is what Jesus was talking about in the Sermon on the Mount when he commanded us to pray for those that mistreat us. Or look down at 1 Corinthians 4:12-13 where Paul says that when reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; when slandered, we try to conciliate.

Second, when I follow Christ, I am only a fool to the world, not to God. This reminds me that sometimes I look at what someone is doing and think it is foolish, but I do not understand all of the circumstances, don't have all the information, cannot see the future. But then when I get the information, time passes and I see more clearly, what the person did makes perfect sense. God knows the future, He sees all the facts and circumstances. So what seems foolish to the world makes perfect sense to God because He knows everything. Reminds me of Pastor Jay's sermon back in May on 1 Peter 5:10--suffering is for a little while and God is using it to perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish me. I cannot see all of that, but God does.

Today, Lord, let me rejoice in being a fool for Your sake.

Blessings
Larry
