Thought:
Finishing John today and looking at 20:31. In this verse, John tells us his purpose in writing his Gospel--that we may believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God and that believing we will have life in His name. John's whole purpose is writing was to help us believe that Jesus is the Messiah and that by believing we will have life--for without Jesus there is no life.

Today, this strikes me as a purpose that we all can adopt. What if every day I got up with the purpose of living my life so that others believe that Jesus is the Christ and that by believing they can have life in His name. Churches, companies, organizations and individuals are always seeking to state a mission, a goal, a vision, a purpose--but what if our only purpose was to join John in his efforts. Today, everything I say and do will be done with the intention of showing others that Jesus is the Christ. I will make every decision, form every attitude, take every action, so that others will believe that Jesus is the Christ. I will examine myself and ask the Holy Spirit to examine me--cast out anything that is not directed toward this singular purpose. I will give up anything that interferes with my witness that Jesus is the Christ. I will have only one goal--that all the world understands and believes that Jesus is the Son of God who takes away the sins of the world.

Think what would happen if every professing Christian in the world took on that assignment for today.

Lord, help us--we want the world to know who You are and believing have eternal life.

Blessings
Larry
