Thought:
Yesterday, we were considering that Jesus has all authority. Today look at Mark chapter 1:21-28. Notice:
  • When Jesus taught in the synagogue, He was teaching as one who had authority, not as the scribes. This amazed the people. Jesus is the author of life--all things were created by Him and He is before all things. He is the author of the scripture--every word is God-breathed. So when the creator of life and the author of the scripture sits down to teach--He has authority. No one needs to tell Him what was intended in the creation or what was intended in the scripture--He is the author. Commentaries and sermons, study guides and books are all helpful in understanding the scripture and the will of God; however, we have direct access to the author and creator. He can instruct us and teach us. remember that the Holy Spirit is present to help us recall all that Jesus said and did and to teach us and guide us. Amazing that God comes to us.
  • Then Jesus casts out the unclean spirits from the man in the synagogue and the people are amazed--a new teaching with authority. A teacher who doesn't just tell us about demons, He speaks and they obey. Think about that. Others may inform us but He transforms us. He speaks with authority and acts consistent with that authority.
Today, think about who you look to aa the authority for your life and decisions. Do you get some good ideas from Jesus, some helpful thoughts, or do you accept His authority.

Blessings
Larry
