Thought:
Starting the week with Matthew 28:18-20, a very familiar passage. Look at the four inclusive terms used in this Commission:
  • All authority: Jesus has all authority. He is the author and perfecter of our faith. He is the author of salvation. He is the author of the covenant. He has all authority. What does that mean to me today?
    • I don't need to look for any other authority. When Jesus speaks, He speaks with all authority. When He makes a promise, He does so with all authority.
    • When I walk in His authority, I have perfect peace because He is the authority. The author is the creator, maker, so when I follow His lead, obey His commands, I do so in His authority.
    • When I look to another authority for my direction, commands, guidance, I will walk in darkness, because He is all authority.
    • Knowing He has all authority and is all authority means there is no higher authority--not the government, not the employer, not the advisor, or counselor--When I listen to Him I hear from the authority.
  • All nations. In His authority my mission is to all people. He came to save all who believe and He sends me to tell the good news to all men and women. I do not get to pick and choose based upon my wants, desires, preferences. I can't eliminate anyone from the mission. No prejudice, no bias. I  must love as He loved.
  • All commandments. As with people, I don’t get to pick and choose which commandments to obey and which to reject. If He is master and authority, then all His commandments ar absolutely true, righteous, and perfect. They do not change with times or circumstances. And I cannot teach others to observe that which I ignore or disobey.
  • Always. He is always the authority in every situation, I go to all people always. And His authority and commands are for always.
Today, Lord help me recall Your authority, obey Your commandments, love and disciple all people, always.
Blessings
Larry
