Thought:
I am always amazed and challenged by Matthew 25:31-46. In chapter 24, we learned that no one except the Father knows the day or hour of Jesus return. 25:31 begins with “when “ He comes. So I must consider what happens when He comes, not if He comes.
  • He will come in glory. 24:29-31 has informed us that he will come on the clouds with power and great glory. Just ponder that this morning. What pictures flash into your mind? When we pray the Model Prayer, we say for Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Think of the rumbling of a mighty storm, wind, clouds, lightning, and thunder. The earth shakes and trembles. He comes in a demonstration of power. And He comes in the glory. Picture the shekinah glory that drove people from the tabernacle; that surrounded the mountain of God; that filled the Temple. Think about the eclipse when we had to wear special glasses to gaze at the sun. O what a day. The scripture calls it the great and terrible day of the Lord.
  • All of the angels will be with Him. Scripture talks of myriads of angels, legions of angels, thousands upon thousands of angels. The angels came to the shepherds announcing His birth. But here, heaven is emptied of all angels. Here is another picture of His power—-the Lord of Hosts, Lord Sabbaoth. Is there any doubt about the outcome?
  • He will sit on His throne. It is His throne. Lord of lords and King of all kings. Isaiah’s prophecy fulfilled. He can sit for His work is done.
  • You know the following verses, the sheep and goats separated. Here is what amazes me—-the sheep do not recall having done the things Jesus attributes to them (25:37). It was such a normal part of their lives that they could not recall some special time of service. On the other hand, the goats question Jesus—when did we not do it?
Waiting for His coming, I want to be so habitual in doing His work of service and love that I can’t remember any special or specific time. It just was natural. Lord, help me be that kind of sheep.

Blessings
Larry
