Thought
Looking at a verse in Isaiah 26 today. "The steadfast of mind Thou will keep in perfect peace because he trusts in Thee." Wow! Looking for peace of mind this morning? Want to get rid of anxiety and fear today? God invites us to have perfect peace. Think about what that would be like--to rest in  perfect peace. Last month we sang "Silent Night" which ends with "sleep in heavenly peace." I read all the mattress ads, see all the commercials--they all promise great sleep. Wake up refreshed. Not to hot, not to cold. Your aches and pains will disappear--just sleep on our mattress. Some come in a box and some cost way too much. And even if you get a good one, they wear out, get lumpy, fail. Or maybe you see adds for ZZZQuil or take melatonin. What does God prescribe?

Trust in the Lord. How does that help me sleep? Cast your cares on Him for He cares for you. [1 Peter 5:7] Interesting that it does not say to hang on to your cares! Jesus removes the yoke of this world and asks us to take up His yoke which is light. When I trust in the Lord I claim His promises--He is my Provider; Sustainer, Comforter, Strength, Bread, Water, Hope, Help, Savior, Deliverer, Joy, Shield, Refuge, Fortress, Wisdom, Light, Healer. Like Father God, He is the Great I Am. Notice that Isaiah adds a very important word for me.

Be steadfast in your trust of the Lord. Now here is my problem. Many times, maybe even most of the time, I trust the Lord and have His peace. But then I doubt. Sounds like Peter walking on the water--looks away from Jesus and at his circumstances and doubt arises and he sinks. Perfect peace comes from steadfast trust--trust despite the circumstances, trust despite what my eyes see and my ears hear. Larry, when anxiety and fear disturb your peace, God has not moved, your trust has weakened.

Another scripture comes to mind--trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. [Proverbs 3:5-6] Maybe sometimes I trust but not with a whole heart, not with full reliance.
So I turn to that great hymn by Frances Havergal and sing:
Like a river glorious is God's perfect peace, over all victorious, in its bright increase. Perfect yet it floweth fuller every day, perfect yet it groweth deeper all the way

Hidden in the hollow of His blessed hand, never foe can follow, never traitor stand; not a surge of worry, not a shade of care, not a blast of hurry touch the spirit there.

Every joy or trial falleth from above, traced upon our dial by the Sun of love; We may trust Him fully, all for us to do; They who trust Him wholly find Him wholly true.

Today, trust Him, trust Him steadfastly without wavering, trust Him whole heartedly and receive His perfect peace.

Blessings

Larry
