Thought:
Today I am looking at the 6th of the seven churches in Revelation 2-3, the city of Philadelphia. Does this sound like you? I think I see Larry in these verses. Jesus again begins by reminding the church that He know their works.
  • You have little power, but have not denied my name. [3:8] Do you sometimes feel that way? I am so weak, I don't have strength or power. I wish I was stronger. I wish I had the strength of ___________________. As I read this letter, I think Jesus is saying you do not have financial power, physical power, political power, military power, positional power in the world; but, yet you endure in the power of the Holy Spirit. Our power is not from education, money, position, but from the indwelling Holy Spirit.
  • You have been attacked by the synagogue of Satan. [3:9] Now I know some of you feel this way. Some who read this blog have been fighting spiritual battles against anger, jealousy, revenge. Some have been fighting physical battles against disease, injury, surgery, cancer. Some of us are fighting battles associated with getting older. We feel attacked. Our country is under attack, morals are challenged, long held truths are called outdated, biased or simply ignorant. The church at Philadelphia was under that same kind of attack. The good news---Jesus knows about the attacks and He is sufficient for every battle.
  • You have endured [3:10]. I like what this verse says. We have held on, endured, not given up. And notice, Jesus promises this church He is coming soon to make all things right. Today we endure, tomorrow we celebrate with Him.
  • You have an open door. [3:8]. Different writers have different takes on what this means. Today, I think it means to me that despite my weakness, despite Satan's attacks, Jesus continues to open doors for me to share the Good News, to proclaim victory in Jesus, to tell others about the hope we have in Christ.
So today, Lord show me the open doors clearly, help me use every opportunity, allow me to be a faithful witness. Then I join with the Spirit and the bride and say, Come Lord Jesus.

Blessings
Larry
