Thought:
In Matthew 6, there are brackets around "For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever." I can't recite the prayer without this verse. Why? Because this verse gives us the assurance that the God to whom we have lifted our petitions is able to hear and answer our prayer.
  • He IS King today. His kingdom is established. One day Jesus will reign here and all His enemies will be like a footstool. He will crush and destroy every competing kingdom. But today, He reigns because I understand that He is outside time and everything God proclaims is real even though I have not yet perceived it. Light takes a little over 8 minutes to get from the sun to my sight, but it existed the moment it left the sun. Likewise, Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords today--everyone has not yet seen and acknowledged that fact--but one day every knee will bow and tongue confess that He is King.
  • He is power today. The fact that He does not exercise His power and authority at my bidding or on my timetable or in the way I would if I had the power, does not mean He does not have all power. But I can pray to Him because He loves me and has the power to answer every prayer for His glory.
  • He is glory today. I pray to the one who possesses all glory. The world may not acknowledge or recognize His glory, but scripture says His glory and majesty is reflected in His creation for all to see.
Because He is King, has all power and is all glorious, I can lift these 7 petitions with confidence.

This morning read 1 Chronicles 29:10-13, a doxology of David:
Blessed are Thou, O Lord God of Israel our Father, forever and ever. Thine O Lord is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed, everything that is in the heavens and the earth; Thine is the dominion, O Lord, and Thou dost exalt Thyself as head over all. Both riches and honor are from Thee and Thou dost rule over all, and in Thy hand is power and might; and it lies in Thy hand to make great and to strengthen everyone. Now therefore, our God, we thank Thee and praise Thy glorious name.

Now sing "Glorious is Thy Name O Lord." My prayer is for His name to be glorified in my life today!

Blessings

Larry
