Thought:
Reading some great news this morning in Romans 5:1-11. Think about the grace of God this morning.
While were were:
- Helpless [5:6]
- Sinners [5:8]
- Enemies [5:10]
Christ died for us! Hallelujah! Think about that for a moment. Christ died for those that were helpless, unable to do anything about our condition. Following the recent hurricanes, we see people who are helpless, unable to do anything--everything lost, no hope. Without the sacrifice of Jesus, we would still be helpless and hopeless. Christ died for sinners--He who knew no sin died for sinners so that we might become the righteousness of God. We were not just helpless, we were not just sinners, we were in open rebellion and at war with God--enemies. We talk about how enemy troops should be treated. In Jesus our rebellion was met with grace, mercy and love.
So, Paul tells us that by faith in Jesus, we have:
- Peace [5:1]. No longer at war, no longer an enemy--at peace with God.
- Hope [5:2]. We have a blessed hope, a hope that will not disappoint. A hope guaranteed and sealed by the Holy Spirit.
- Salvation [5:9]. We are no longer subjects of God's wrath, but covered by the blood of Christ and recipients of the love of God.
- Reconciled [5:10]: Relationship restored no longer enemies but now adopted children.
Ever see these before and after shows on TV? Maybe a make-over with new clothes, hairstyle, facial. Maybe wrinkles and lines before and smooth skin after. Maybe a home that has been remodeled. But that is not what Christ has done through His death--we are not the old with make-up, the old with a new roof. We are new creatures--born again. What a blessing.
This should be a reason to worship, praise and live.
Blessings
Larry
